A multi-platinum star when he was barely out of his teens, U.K. native Craig David ventured into the music business after placing first in a songwriting contest in 1996. He later scored a club smash with the Artful Dodger on "Re-Rewind," an accomplishment that triggered a chain-reaction that eventually led to the release of his 2000 debut, Born to Do It, on Wildstar/Atlantic Records. A seamless mix of R&B, pop, hip-hop and garage, Born to Do It sold more than seven million copies worldwide. The single "Fill Me In" made David the youngest-ever British male artist to achieve a number one hit in the U.K. while "7 Days" was nominated for a Grammy for Best Male Pop Performance in 2002. In 2002, David, whose celebrity fan club includes Elton John, Bono and Jennifer Lopez, released his follow-up, Slicker Than Your Average, an album that continues to meld many genres into an inventive and unique sound. It includes a collaboration with Sting on "Rise and Fall," a song built around the melody of Sting's 1993 hit "Shape of My Heart."
