Evan and Jaron proudly present HALF DOZEN, a breakthrough six-song record containing their signature blend of harmonies and witty lyrics, along with three bonus tracks from earlier recordings. For the new album, the follow up to their critically acclaimed, self-titled release in 2001, the duo collaborated with famed producer Dann Huff (Faith Hill, Jewel, Megadeath). The result: a distinctive, highly-melodic collection of songs that’s already drawing rave reviews from radio-station programmers around the country. The record will be released on April 13, 2004.
Drawing on influences ranging from Simon and Garfunkel, The Eagles, early Elton John, to The Counting Crows, the album displays the brothers’ maturing talents, and will remind listeners why Evan and Jaron’s hit single “Crazy For This Girl” was a mainstay on the charts two years ago.
Misery never sounded as good as it does on “What She Likes,” the first single off HALF DOZEN. The song tells a story of a heartbroken man, still hung up on a past relationship, trying to win back his love by showing he knows all about “What She Likes.” The song features a memorable chorus that showcases the brothers’ vocal range and songwriting skill.
Born and raised in Atlanta, Evan and Jaron never set out to be rock stars. In fact, it wasn’t until Evan started playing guitar at 17 years old, that the brothers ever knew they had musical talent (neither one could sit still long enough to ever learn an instrument when they were kids). Shortly thereafter, Evan and Jaron began performing locally until they caught the eye of Jimmy Buffett. He brought them to the attention of then Island Records founder and president, Chris Blackwell, who signed the brothers on the spot. After a corporate shuffle, they were released and subsequently picked up by Columbia Records where they would go on to enjoy 3 top 40 hits, including the top 10 smash “Crazy For This Girl,” which was one of the top 10 most played songs of 2001.
With over a decade of writing, recording, and touring behind them, Evan and Jaron are only getting started. With “Half Dozen” Evan and Jaron plan to continue building their already strong fan base with stand-outs like “Through The Blue” and “Standing In The Middle.” Having previously released two major label records, Evan and Jaron decided to tackle the fledgling record industry head-on by releasing HALF DOZEN on their own label 12 Between Us Records. The brothers left Columbia Records in 2002 with a fully produced album in their possession and a number of offers from other labels, but the temptation to do it ‘their way’ prevailed.
Evan and Jaron will be on tour from early May through the summer. The brothers know that live performances are the key to keeping their broad fan base (which ranges from twenty-somethings to Baby Boomer parents to teenage girls) closely connected to the band and its music. A tour of small theatres is being planned, along with commitments for opening slots on larger tours.
