Whether she's appearing as the lead singer with her family group, The Staple Singers, fronting her own band or appearing in a duet format with Lucky Peterson, performing "A Tribute to Mahalia Jackson", Mavis Staples' deep soulful voice and positive energy creates a joyous and moving celebration. Her career stretches back to her childhood when she traveled extensively throughout the US while performing with the gospel caravans of the 1950's. The Staple Singers went on to reach international success with numerous pop hits, "I'll Take You There," "Respect Yourself," and "Let's Do It Again." More recently under the guidance of Prince, she recorded two solo records for his Paisley Park label and appeared in his film, Graffiti Bridge, as Melody Cool. Throughout her career she's worked with a stellar group of musicians, singers and songwriters including Curtis Mayfield, Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Tom Jones, The Band and many more.
