Ex-Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell and drummer Stephen Perkins formed Porno For Pyros in 1992, continuing the hypnotic, art-rock tradition of the defunct Jane's Addiction. With Peter DiStefano on guitar and Martyn LeNoble on bass, Porno For Pyros released their self-titled debut album in 1993 to critical and commercial applause (the album went to No. 3 on the U.S. charts and No. 13 on the U.K. charts). Farrell's brainchild, the Lollapalooza festival tour, distracted him from recording until 1996 when the second album Good God's Urgesurfaced. Recording was interrupted by the band's frequent surf trips to Bali, Fiji and Tahiti and the replacement of LeNoble with former Minutemen and fIREHOSE bassist, Mike Watt.
