Take 6 The first (self-titled) album, released in 1988, is completely acappella and is a mix of new adaptations of Negro spirituals along with a couple of originals and covers. It showcases their ensemble sound in a big way, and is probably the most typical album when you think of the "Take 6 sound" or the sound which made them famous. The second album (So Much 2 Say), released in 1990, combines their vocal virtuosity with a lot of studio wizardry. The fourth album is Join The Band (1994), a departure from many things the group had been known for until this point; most of the songs are accompanied. The album boasts an array of talent, including Stevie Wonder, Kirk Whalum, Ray Charles, and several more. The album is probably best described as R&B, although many other styles are covered too. The acappella on the album ranks among the best you will ever hear Take 6 do, and each of the accompanied tracks still features the trademark harmonies. Writing and arranging responsibilities are divided among the members, with each member involved in some way other than the actual singing. The fifth and latest album, Brothers (1996), is completely accompanied, and the emphasis is now on the songwriting and the solo voices, while the group generally provides only backup vocals.
