With the release of their third full length album, First Band On The Moon, The Cardigans have announced their arrival as a pop quintet with an expanded worldview, a growing audience and panoramic music visions. The Cardigans US debut, Life, displayed their infectious amalgamation of beatnik jazz and wistful 60's kitsch-pop. The follow up, First Band On The Moon, shows The Cardigans fine tuning their pop smarts, and provides a strong argument that they may be Sweden's hippest export since the Volvo P-1800. The Cardigans formed October 1992 in Jonkoping, Sweden when guitarist Peter Svensson and bassist Magnus Sveningsson aborted their heavy metal phase and made it their new mission in life to be "as good as The Beatles." The band now includes Peter and Magnus, Nina Persson on lead vocals and finger snapping, Bengt Lagerberg on drums and flute, and Lasse Johansson on guitar/keyboards. On the previous albums, Peter composed the music and Magnus the lyrics, however First Band On The Moon shows the debut of Nina as a major contributor, writing half the lyrics on the album. First Band On The Moon was produced and engineered by Doc-Tore Johansson on 24 track analogue at the Tamborine Studios in Malmo, Sweden.
