The Verve Pipe

The Verve Pipe -- formed in East Lansing, Mich. in 1992 -- consists of Brian Vander Ark (vocals, guitars), Donny Brown (drums), A.J. Dunning (guitar), Doug Corella (keyboards, percussion) and Brad Vander Ark (bass). Their two independent releases -- I've Suffered A Head Injury (1992) and Pop Smear (1993) -- have collectively sold more than 40,000 copies. Villains, their 1996 major label debut on RCA Records, was recorded the the Plant in Sausalito, Calif., and produced by Jerry Harrison (Live, Crash Test Dummies). The Verve Pipe spent most of 1996 touring in support of the album (opening for KISS on the European leg of their reunion tour). But it wasn't until they re-recorded a version of "The Freshmen" (originally released on I've Suffered A Head Injury) that they gained national attention. The single hit the No.1 spot on the modern rock charts and boosted Villains to gold status.
