Born in Ossining, N.Y. in 1959, pop-country singer John Berry became a popular local artist in his adopted hometown of Atlanta, Ga., long before hitting big in the early '90s. During the 1980s Berry self-released a total of no less than six albums, becoming a regional favorite; only then, in 1992, did he sign to Capitol Records. His 1993 self-titled major-label debut spawned the Top 40 hit "Kiss Me in the Car," while his 1994 single "Your Love Amazes Me" hit No. 1. Sadly, Berry has been plagued with medical problems, undergoing brain and throat surgery in 1994 and 1997, respectively, forcing him to cancel two major tours. His latest release, Crazy for the Girl, came out in 1997.
