Country singer Tracy Byrd was born and raised in Vidor, Texas, near Beaumont, and grew up listening to country music, though he did not begin singing until his early 20s, when a great karaoke performance led to talent contests and eventually a professional career. Byrd signed to MCA in the early 1990s and made his full-length debut in 1992 with a self-titled album that spawned the No. 1 hit "Holdin' Heaven." After releasing 1994's No Ordinary Man and 1995's Love Lessons, Byrd returned with his 1996 opus Big Love, supported by tours with Tracy Lawrence and Brooks and Dunn.
