Xavier Cugat's name is synonymous with Latin-American music.
The reason is simple: Xavier Cugat, always a superb showman, succeeded in
presenting the music of South America to the American public in a most
captivating manner, never losing it's authentic threads in the quilt he wove of
musical colors and style which was always delivered with panache and elegance.
No one has ever imbued "Musica Latina" with more glamour; in that respect.
Xavier Cugat was unique. When the decision was taken by Xavier Cugat to form a
new orchestra and carry on the Latin-American tradition he fostered in America,
the question of who would direct the group, as expected, posed the most
difficult problem. He wisely chose a protege of his, Ada Cavallo, a trained
musician, exciting vocalist and deft dancer of charismatic charm who also
possessed leadership qualities and understood both cultures; one who could
produce, maintain and present the Xavier Cugat legend to today's audiences.
