John Smitherman's talent for crossing stages has led to a
unique and diverse resume. Ranging from Opera to French Melodie to Musical
Theatre to Rock 'n' Roll, he has done it all. On the opera stage, John has
performed leading roles in IL PAGLIACCI, OTELLO, MADAMA BUTTERFLY, and LE NOZZE
DI FIGARO to name only a few. In Musical Theatre he has performed over 100
different roles, including Curly in Oklahoma, Ravenal in SHOWBOAT, Danny Zuko in
Grease, and Lt. Joe Cable, along side Jamie Farr (of M.A.S.H. fame) in SOUTH
PACIFIC. As a concert artist, he has performed all over the southeastern portion
of the United States from New York City to Miami. He has been the Tenor soloist
for many of the major oratories and cantata, such as Dubois' SEVEN LAST WORDS OF
CHRIST, Haydn's CREATION, Handel's MESSIAH, and the American debut of Paesillo's
MASSE DU SACRE DE NAPOLEON. In addition to his CDs "Live" and "Opera Passion,"
John can be heard on the original cast recording of FLAGLER, EMPIRE BUILDER.
This past millenium, John Smitherman was honored by being chosen as one of the
THREE AMERICAN TENORS. This title has led to performances all over the world
from Australia to Alaska. He has been refered to as the "Mario Lanza of this
century" and has won countless awards for his singing and acting. Mr. Smitherman
has recently completed two highly acclaimed productions as the title role in
