One of a handle full of Motown acts still performing today are the versatile and entertaining Contours. Known for their full vocal range and hot dance routines they continue to thrill Motown fans throughout the world. In the summer of 1962, The Contours struck gold when Berry Gordy penned the now classic song "Do You Love Me," which he wrote for all the women who rejected his advances when he was younger. This tune became the group's biggest hit as well as Motown's fastest climbing hit of all time. Within two weeks of release it became the #2 record in the nation as well as the groups first gold record. In the years to follow the group enjoyed success with "Shake Sherrie," "Jerk Like Me," "Just a Little Misunderstanding" and "First I Look at the Purse." Today they continue to keep their audiences dancing under the direction of original members Sylvester Potts and Joe Billingslea. Their contagious high-energy shows encompass all of the spirit that made those wonderful "Motown Revues" so popular with fans during the 60's. Their shows highlight all the classic Motown music of the 60's and 70's from The Miracles, Temptations, Four Tops and Marvin Gaye. The group has enjoyed a tremendous resurgence in popularity due to the 1988 Academy Award winning film "Dirty Dancing," in which "Do You Love Me" was featured. It became so popular in fact.... that their 10 month "Dirty Dancing Tour," played to over 2 million fans in 8 countries. The song reclaimed the charts, and hit at the #11 position on the national charts. Live in concert, The Contours are just plain good old fashion, Motown stepping, hand clapping, feet stomping, fun.
