Chris Farmer
(Formerly of The Beach Boys)
“It never ceases to amaze me that, after studying and performing these wonderful
songs for over a quarter century, there’s always some new sound to discover
listening to the original recordings.”
— Chris Farmer (former musical director/The Beach Boys),
referring to The Beach Boys catalog.
Bassist Chris Farmer and drummer Mike Kowalski have played thousands of shows
together with the legendary Beach Boys. Although they are renowned for their
famous summer concerts (where conga lines move and beach balls fly through the
crowd), The Beach Boys have played their fair share of private functions and
charity fundraisers as well. Because of this experience, Chris and Mike
definitely know how to provide a smooth, “no surprises” evening of music and
entertainment at corporate events.
Chris Farmer is the musical director for “The OC” Beach Band. Although he is
primarily the bassist for the group, Chris also plays guitar, keyboards, and
sings lead and backing vocals. He was the bass player and vocalist for The Beach
Boys from 1995 to 2007 and their musical director and vocal arranger from 1999
to 2007. During his time with “The Boys,” Chris’ tight, complex vocal harmonies
carried every part in the band’s famed vocal stack; bass, lead, middle harmony,
and even the Beach Boys’ trademark high falsetto. In the 80’s and 90's, Chris
was musical director, bass player and vocalist for groups such as Mike Love and
The California Beach Band, Jan & Dean, Good Vibrations, and Rhino recording
artists The Belair Bandits. Chris was also the musical director, bassist, and
vocalist for Jack Wagner, helping propel his recording of the hit "All I Need"
to the number #2 spot on the Billboard charts. He was also the music supervisor,
director, bass player, and singer for the "Legends of Do-Wop" and "Cavalcade of
Stars" shows, performing with such greats as Sam Moore of Sam and Dave, David
Ruffin of The Temptations, The Drifters, The Coasters, The Diamonds, Al Wilson,
The Flamingos, and many other giants of 50's and 60's era.
Mike Kowalski
(Formerly of The Beach Boys)
Drummer and pianist Mike Kowalski could be called the elder statesman of “The
OC” Beach Band. After joining The Beach Boys as their drummer in the late
1960’s, he has traveled the world many times over, providing the beat for
“America’s Band.” Mike also performed and/or recorded with legendary blues
guitarist Albert Collins, Johnny Otis, jazz saxophonist Charles LLoyd, Big Joe
Turner, and John Mayall. In the 1980s, Mike helped create the jumpin’ jazz/blues
band The Backsters, which was signed to A & M Records, with Herb Alpert as their
executive producer. The Backsters’ album, "Get on Your Back" featured many top
jazz and blues players and their single "Handclappin" was one of the first
instrumental music videos ever featured on MTV's rotation.
Scott Bennett and Probyn Gregory (The Brian Wilson Band)
“Music is a healing force -- listen to it, make it, and share it at every
opportunity.”
– Probyn Gregory (The Brian Wilson Band)
Scott Bennett and Probyn Gregory have spent the last few years as key members of
Beach Boys founder Brian Wilson's band, a group Paul McCartney calls, "the best
band on the road. Period!"
Both are singer-songwriters, producers, and multi-instrumentalists. In "The OC"
Beach Band, Scott sings lead and backing vocals and plays drums, the organ, and
the piano, while Probyn handles the guitar, horns, percussion, and vocals.
Scotty and Probyn have played with some of the biggest names in the music
industry. At Neil Young's Bridge School Benefit, they performed with The Who,
Sheryl Crow, Tom Waits, and many other top artists. As part of the Brian Wilson
band, they followed Stevie Wonder and Macy Gray at the MusicCares salute to Paul
Simon. They also backed Sir Elton John, Billy Joel, David Crosby and Vince Gill
at the TNT tribute to Brian Wilson at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall.
After performing at the Queens Golden Jubilee at Buckingham Palace in London
with Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Phil Collins, Rod Stewart, Queen, and Sir Paul
McCartney, McCartney was so impressed that he asked Brian Wilson and his band to
join him at the Adopt-a-Landmine event.
A week later, Scotty and Probyn took the stage at Madison Square Garden in New
York City with Sting, James Taylor, Don Henley, Roger Waters, John Mellencamp,
and Jeff Beck.
Michael Campion and Dan McNamara
(Surf City Boys)
Mainstays in the Southern California corporate event scene, Surf City Boys
founder Mike Campion and Dan McNamara have been and have performed with the
renowned “OC” band since the 1980s. As part of the house band at Knott’s Berry
Farm, Mike’s guitar and keyboards, and Dan’s keyboards and drums never failed to
“bring the house down” at the famous theme park, as well as hundreds of private
parties, special events, corporate functions, and fairs and festivals across the
nation.
Jeff Peters
Audio engineer (The Beach Boys, Brian Wilson)
Jeff Peters was the front-of–house engineer for The Beach Boys in the 80’s and
90’s and recently for Brian Wilson. Now he makes sure the music of “The OC” Band
is presented in all its timeless glory at every event. Along with many other
clients, Jeff records, produces and remixes past Beach Boys shows and “greatest
hits” packages for commercial release through Capitol Records to keep the music
sounding as legendary as the hits it’s based on.
