An Emmy, duPont-Columbia, and Gracie Allen Award winning journalist and the youngest state judge to ever be elected in Texas , Catherine Crier joined Court TV's distinguished team of anchors in November 1999. She was recently named the Executive Editor, Legal News Specials, in addition to hosting Catherine Crier LIVE, a daily talk program that premiered in February 2001. Ms. Crier, a Texas-bred independent with a spirited passion for justice, debates with her guests the day's most provocative topics. She reveals her opinionated side within a format of lively segments, diverse and knowledgeable experts and unpredictable interviews. Due out in October of 2002, Catherine Crier's first book The Case Against Lawyers is both an angry indictment and an eloquent plea for a return to common sense. It decries a system of laws so complex even the enforcers--such as the IRS--cannot understand them. It unmasks a litigation-crazed society where billion-dollar judgments mostly line the pockets of personal injury lawyers. It deplores the stupidity of a system of liability that leads to such results as a label on a stroller that warns, `Remove child before folding." It indicts a criminal justice system that puts minor drug offenders away for life yet allows celebrity murderers to walk for free. And it excoriates the sheer corruption of the iron triangle of lawyers, bureaucrats and politicians who profit mightily from all this inefficiency, injustice, and abuse. Catherine Crier began her television career at CNN. She was co-anchor of both Inside Politics `92, a daily show which followed the 1992 political process, and The World Today, the premier nighttime newscast. Additionally, she hosted Crier & Company, a live, half-hour news talk show. This show included a panel of female policy experts who discussed popular national and international issues. Prior to her accomplished career in television journalism, Ms. Crier presided over the 162nd District Court in Dallas County , TX as a State District Judge. When she took the bench in 1984, she became the youngest elected state judge in Texas history. From 1982 to 1984, Ms. Crier was a civil litigation attorney in Dallas and before that, an Assistant District Attorney and Felony Chief Prosecutor for the Dallas County District Attorney's office from 1978 to 1981.
