David Bar-Illan has been Director of Policy Planning and Communications at the Prime Minister's Office during the three years of Mr. Netanyahu's tenure, and in that capacity served as the Israeli Government's official spokesperson. Before that he was the editor of The Jerusalem Post, where he also wrote a weekly column, "Eye on the Media." He is the former publisher and editor of the Tel Aviv Hebrew weekly La'Inyan. From 1984 to 1989, he was the director of the Jonathan Institute, a private foundation named after Jonathan Netanyahu and dedicated to combating international terrorism. He has been a regular contributor to major publications in the United States , Europe and Israel , and a lecturer on the Middle East at universities and various organizations. He is a recipient of the Liberty Medal of the City of New York , awarded on the occasion of the restoration of the Statue of Liberty. He resides in Jerusalem .
