Fannie Flagg began writing and producing television specials at age 19. She went on to distinguish herself as an actress and writer in television, film, and theater. Her first novel, Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man, spent ten weeks on the New York Times Best-seller List. Her second novel, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe, held the number-one position on the New York Times Best-seller List for 36 weeks. Film rights and screenplay were purchased by Universal Studios, and it was made into the feature film Fried Green Tomatoes. Flagg penned the script, which won her Academy Award and Writers Guild of America Award nominations. Fannie's audio recording of the Fried Green Tomatoes novel received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Spoken Word for her performance. She also wrote the popular Original Whistle Stop Cafe Cookbook (Ballantine), and her first novel was re-released in paperback and on audiotape. Once again, her humor, respect, and affection for her characters shines forth in her most recent novel, Welcome to the World, Baby Girl! This time her character is urban: a brainy, beautiful, and ambitious rising star of 1970s television. The novel has received rave reviews and spent 12 weeks on the New York Times Best-seller List. It is also available on an audiotape, read by the author. Ms. Flagg is currently working on her fourth novel, and divides her time between Southern California and Alabama.
