Linda Fairstein, former prosecutor and best-selling crime novelist, is America 's foremost expert on crimes of violence against women and children. For three decades, from 1972 until 2002, she served in the office of the New York County District Attorney's Office, where she was Chief of the Sex Crimes Prosecution Unit. In that position, Ms. Fairstein supervised the investigation and trial of every Manhattan case involving sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse and homicides arising out of these crimes. She has directed or been the lead attorney in all major litigation in these specialties, ranging from the homicide prosecution of Robert Chambers ("the preppy murder case") through the trial against the offenders charged with the riot in Central Park following the Puerto Rican Day parade in June, 2000. Ms. Fairstein is the bestselling author of a series of crime novels featuring Manhattan prosecutor Alex Cooper. Final Jeopardy (1996), Likely To Die (1997), Cold Hit (1999), and The Deadhouse (2001) have been translated into more than twelve languages. The Deadhouse debuted on The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The London Times bestseller lists. Scribner published Ms. Fairstein's fifth novel in the series, The Bone Vault in January, 2003. Ms. Fairstein is also the author of a non-fiction work. Sexual Violence: Our War Against Rape (1993) was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. In addition to her writing, Ms. Fairstein is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. She serves on non-profit boards, including Safe Horizon; Mt. Sinai Hospital 's Sexual Assault Victim Intervention Program; Phoenix House Foundation; and the New York Women's Agenda. Ms. Fairstein has been profiled on a variety of television programs, including 20/20. She has also been the subject of stories in The New York Times Sunday Magazine (cover story), Esquire, Glamour, Time, and Cosmopolitan. In 1993, she was named "Woman of the Year" by both New Woman Magazine and Glamour.
