Robert Bennett

Robert S. Bennett, a former federal prosecutor and a member of the defense bar since 1971, the firm's international government enforcement group. He also leads the civil litigation practice of Skadden, Arps's Washington , DC office. A trial lawyer who has tried several high-profile cases, Mr. Bennett represents corporations, directors and officers in criminal and civil matters. He advises management and boards of directors on preventive and remedial measures. He also assists them in performing internal investigations for purposes of defending against criminal charges, share-holder derivative suits, suspension and debarment proceedings. Mr. Bennett has extensive experience representing clients before Congressional committees. During the past decade, Mr. Bennett has served as Special Counsel to the United States Senate's Select Committee on Ethics in several major investigations. In 1981 and 1982, he also served as a legal consultant to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee regarding the appointment of Alexander M. Haig, Jr. as Secretary of State. Mr. Bennett has co-chaired several American Bar Association National Institute programs on the defense of corporations and their officers in parallel grand jury and administrative agency investigations. He also has written and lectured extensively on complex criminal and civil matters. Mr. Bennett is repeatedly listed in various publications as one of the nation's most influential and successful trial attorneys.
