Sol M. Linowitz has combined three careers as lawyer, businessman and diplomat. At present he Is Honorary Chairman of the Academy for Educational Development. He was Senior Counsel of the International law firm of Coudert Brothers until 1994, having served as a Senior Partner of the firm from 1969 to 1983. Previously he was Chairman of the Board of Xerox Corporation. He has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of Time, Inc.; Pan American World Airways; and the Marine Midland Bank; as well as a Trustee of the Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York . From 1979 to 1981 Linowitz served with the rank of Ambassador as the Personal Representative of the President to the Middle East Peace Negotiations and earlier as Co-Negotiator of the Panama Canal Treaties. From 1978 to 1979 he was Chairman of the Presidential Commission on World Hunger. He was Founder and Co-Chairman of the Inter-American Dialogue and is now Chairman Emeritus. From 1966 to 1969, he was U.S. Ambassador to the Organization of American States. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of Cornell University, Hamilton College (Life) and The Johns Hopkins University (Emeritus) and has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jewish Theological Seminary. He holds over 40 honorary doctorate degrees from various colleges and universities including American University , Amherst College . Colgate University , Dartmouth College , Georgetown University , Hamilton College . Johns Hopkins University, Notre Dome University, Rutgers University, Syracuse University, University of Michigan, University of Pennsylvania, Washington University and Yeshiva University. His book, The Making of a Public Man, A Memoir, was published in 1985, and The Betrayed Profession: Lawyering In the 20th Century in 1994. Linowitz was a founder and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the international Executive Service Corps, and is a member of the board of the Americas Society. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations; and a Follow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and of the Royal Academy of Arts and Sciences.
