Billy Crystal

Billy Crystal is one of the few comedians of his generation who has not been seen inside a rehab clinic or on the cover of a tabloid. '' I lead a nice clean life,'' he explains simply, crediting his tight-knit family -- and especially Janice, his wife of 25 years (!) -- for keeping him grounded throughout his erratic career. A leading name in contemporary comedy, Billy Crystal has achieved great success as a comedian, sitcom and film actor, filmmaker, and awards show host. "I don't look for trouble,'' he says. "I'm really happy in my life and work right now. I'm on a really nice hitting streak. I'm starting to understand who I am and what I can do, and it's a good feeling. I feel like stuff is just beginning.'' Crystal first found fame on TV's Soap, and on Saturday Night Live, where he displayed a remarkable versatility for creating memorable characters of all races, genders and ages. Crystal simultaneously embarked on a rocky climb to film stardom, culminating in When Harry Met Sally..., City Slickers, and then Forget Paris, a romantic comedy with Debra Winger, which he describes as a 25th anniversary present to his wife. He has also won plaudits, and three Emmys, as the quick-witted host of the Academy Awards (1990-93). In 1986 he published a possibly premature autobiography, "Absolutely Mahvelous."
