Bobby Caldwell

With a shadowy voice that's as smooth as a breeze on silk, singer/ songwriter Bobby Caldwell has carved a niche for himself with songs that are melodic treasures of pure delight. He weaves a tapestry of tunes that reach all segments of the population and, in short, he has hit on a formula that has turned much of his material into recording classics. Bobby Caldwell is firmly ensconced on the airwaves following a string of platinum hit singles, including his performance of Top 40 tunes such as "What You Won't Do For Love" and "Jamaica". Caldwell gained further international momentum with his 1992 release, Stuck On You (titled Solid Ground in Japan) which is an abstract carnival of musical energy that's laced with a sentimental edge. The title tune, featuring a 60 piece orchestra made up of Sinatra and Tony Bennett band members, catapulted onto the NAC charts and quickly became a much sought after cover tune by some of today's top pop international music superstars. Caldwell was born in Manhattan and inherited his musical interests from his parents, both musicians who hosted "Suppertime," one of the first variety shows in early television. While growing up, Caldwell's fiery interest in music was admittedly on the fringe of rebellious rock, often performing Hendrix and Cream selections in small clubs from coast to coast. His musical tastes also ran the gamut to Little Richard (with whom he played lead guitar for two years), Stevie Wonder, Donnie Hathaway and Marvin Gaye. What has always made Caldwell unique is his ability to meld romantic melodies with genuine rock & roll. This marriage of styles made his music hard to pigeonhole and over the years, his talents have found recognition among jazz, R&B, contemporary and pop aficionados. Additionally, during this period, Caldwell earned a reputation as a blue-eyed soul musician who became one of the industry's most prolific and sought-after songwriters, having penned tunes for the likes of Chicago, Bozz Scaggs, Al Jarreau, Amy Grant, Peter Cetera, and The Commodores among others His first single, "What You Won't Do For Love", became an overnight sensation. A real classic. Covered by Dionne Warwick, Phyllis Hyman and Natalie Cole & Peabo Bryson among others. His next albums included "Cat In The Hat," "Carry On, "August Moon", "Heart Of Mine" and "Stuck On You". All five albums, while enjoying brisk sales in the U.S., hit pure gold in Japan where Caldwell is a top international artist. He was honored in 1992 with that country's Grammy-equivalent as Best International Artist.

Music lovers will find Bobby Caldwell's Where Is Love a unique and satisfying pop/jazz listening experience complete with Bobby's signature killer vocals, great melodies and a range of sophistication to funk Latin overtones. "Don't Worry 'Bout Me" and "I Get A Kick Out Of You" (recorded by Frank Sinatra), also recorded with the Sinatra/Bennett players along with a live 24 piece orchestra, is absolutely unforgettable. Caldwell continues his tradition of creating his own music which he has forged into today's version of tomorrow's classics.
