DAVID JOHANSEN first achieved notoriety with the legendary, pre-glitter, proto-punk band the New York Dolls. He then enjoyed a successful career as David Johansen, releasing five solo albums. Then, one fateful day, he became BUSTER POINDEXTER. Some say the identity change had to do with the Federal Witness Protection Program. Buster is mum about the subject, saying only, "I've burned a lot of bridges." Whatever the reason, Buster Poindexter soon established himself as the world's premier rhythm & blues oriented cabaret entertainer, or as he puts it "the world's greatest entertainer - dead or alive." Buster and his Banshees of Blue Band released three pleasure-packed albums and scored a huge hit with the single "Hot, Hot, Hot." They made fans around the world, playing every major venue with an adjoining casino. Buster renewed his love affair with Latin music in 1996, while on his Queen of the Upper Amazon Riverboat Tour - an affair that began when he was just a child, watching the legendary Iris Chacon on television. His newest album, Buster's Spanish Rocketship, pays tribute to Iris in song. His new band features one of the great party-bands of the late 20th century, with a mastery of Latin rhythms and a Ph.D in New York schtick.
