Cris Carter has spent the last decade reinventing the wide receiver position. The quintessential possession receiver, his signature sideline catch is mimicked weekly by a new generation of pass catchers. While short on speed compared to others at his position, Carter has perfected the art of positioning himself in heavy traffic, combining tremendous leaping ability with remarkable body control, to make the impossible catch with graceful ease. One of only three players to catch over 1,000 passes (Jerry Rice and Tim Brown) and only the second to reach the century mark in touchdown receptions (Rice), his place in Canton is secure. After a 2001 season swamped in controversy and a tumultuous off-season, Carter decided trade in his cleats for a microphone and joined HBO's "Inside the NFL" team. After an ill-fated comeback attempt with Miami in 2002, Carter retired again and returned to the broadcast booth full time.
