D.L. HUGHLEY, one of the most highly recognized and popular stand up comedians on the road today is now making a name for himself in the primetime arena. Hughley can currently be seen on ABC-TV appearing in his own sitcom entitled "The Hughleys." The family comedy, which is moving to UPN this fall, is created by Hughley and based on his real-life experiences, features him as "Darryl Hughley," a man with a fresh point of view. In its first season, the sitcom was ABC's highest rated new show, and secured a nomination for a People's Choice Award in the category of "Favorite New Television Comedy Series." Hughley himself was nominated in the category of "Favorite Male Performer in a New Television Series." In addition, he was honored with a nomination for an NAACP Image Award in the category of "Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series" in 1998 and again for 1999. "The Hughleys" was also nominated this year in the "Outstanding Comedy Series" category. Hughley has proved himself as one of the hardest working men in showbiz. Last year, he appeared along with fellow comedians Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer and Bernie Mac in the "Kings Of Comedy" tour, one of the highest grossing comedy tours ever. In addition, Hughley's one-hour Comedy Special "D.L. Hughley: Going Home" is currently airing on HBO. The special, which has quickly become an audience favorite, was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for "Outstanding Variety Series/Special." His performance was also nominated for an award. Later this year, Hughley plans to release a comedy album from Ruff House Records. As a result of his work on HBO and his quick rise in popularity among the audiences he constantly kept in stitches, Hughley was chosen as the first host of "Comic View" on Black Entertainment Television. Hughley is proud of his association with BET and the success of "Comic View," which allowed black comedians a showcase for their talent. Hughley's success continued from there. He went on to make many television appearances including, "The Best of Def Comedy Jam," "Def Jam's Comedy All-Stars," MTV's "Comedy Half-Hour," CBS's "48 Hours," "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air," and "The Oprah Winfrey Show." He also served as a guest host on NBC's "Later" and has made numerous talk show appearances on shows including "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "Late Night with David Letterman," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," "Politically Incorrect," and "The View."
