Rabbi David Blumenfeld was a victim of a PLO terrorist death squad attack in Jerusalem at the beginning of the Intifada in 1986. Wounded in the head, he managed to “get past” the traumatic event. His daughter, Laura, a prize winning Washington Post journalist did not. Her recent non-fiction best seller book, “Revenge – A Story of Hope”, describes her search for the assailant and her analysis of revenge as understood from her in-depth interviews with people of varying backgrounds in many parts of the world.

Dr. Blumenfeld has since been invited to lecture in synagogues, JCC’s, academic settings and interfaith gatherings on the subject of revenge. His presentation is particularly relevant to the current situation in the Middle East. The cycle of violence is a direct consequence of rampant feelings of revenge and retaliation. But he astutely, and at times, with good humor, leads the audience one step further into an analysis of the Jewish attitude to taking revenge.
