Ethan Zohn is best known for winning a million dollars on Survivor, the CBS hit reality show. One of the more popular and recognizable contestants, he was invited back for 2004's Survivor All Stars. Before Survivor, Zohn was a professional soccer player and college coach, having played both domestically and internationally, including overseas in Africa. Zohn used a portion of his Survivor winnings to found Grassroot Soccer, an organization that works with professional soccer players to educate kids in Africa about HIV/AIDS prevention. He works with other charities as well, and has served as a TV host and a sideline reporter for soccer telecasts.
Before Survivor, Zohn was a professional soccer player, having played both domestically and internationally, including a year in Zimbabwe. He was also selected to compete with the 1997 U.S. National Macabiah Team in Israel. In 1997, Zohn became an assistant coach for the Men's and Women's Soccer Teams at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. During his five years at FDU, the men's team reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. Zohn also played soccer and lacrosse at the collegiate level for Vasser, where he graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology.
As a result of his Survivor fame, Zohn was able to obtain talent work in television. He hosted several shows for MTV, including MTV's Most Expensive Videos: Part 4 (co-hosted by Robin Leach), Seaside Survivor, and Survivor: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Utilizing his soccer background, he worked as a sideline reporter for the LA Galaxy (Major League Soccer), as a correspondent during the 2002 Men's World Cup in Korea/Japan, and as a reporter for ESPN Radio during the same Men's World Cup. Zohn also hosted "African Soccer Weekly," a syndicated show airing in the U.S.
Zohn used a portion of his Survivor winnings to start a charity, Grassroot Soccer , an organization that works with professional soccer players to educate kids in Zimbabwe about HIV/AIDS prevention. He also acts as a spokesperson for American Scores , a soccer program directed towards inner-city youth that combines creative writing and soccer.
