Inspired by Elvis Presley, the Flemish-born singer Helmut
Lotti has created his own place in international pop music, singing everything
from Presley hits to his own interpretations of classical favorites.
Lotti emerged from the Flemish music scene in the early 1990s, discovering a
much wider audience in 1993 with the release of his platinum-selling album
Memories, with English-language versions of Flemish hits. For his next album
Just for You, Lotti performed only his own songs.
But it was Helmut Lotti Goes Classic, recorded live in concerts in Antwerp in
September 1995, that established him as an international star. The recording
features 18 classical favorites sung in Lotti's trademark style, and its success
is indicated by the fact that it sold, in three months, almost half a million
compact discs in Belgium alone. The recording led to a series of sold out
"Classic" concerts and a meeting with tenor Luciano Pavarotti, who noted, "I
just love Lotti."
2007 starts under a lucky star. Barely a few weeks after the release of “The
Crooners”, the album already tops the list of best sold CD’s in Flanders. Also
internationally the double album promises to become a new best seller and the
expectations are confirmed. By the end of January 2007 “The Crooners” is good
for two times platinum and one time gold. With over 12.500.000 sold CD’s, Helmut
Lotti may call himself the most successful Flemish artist ever.
