Jimmy Johnson, who has a NFL career record of 59-45 after an 8-8 season in 1996, was named General Manager and Head Coach of the Miami Dolphins in 1996, becoming the third head coach in the club’s history. Jimmy Johnson became the first, and one of only two head coaches in football history, to win both a Super Bowl title (Dallas Cowboys-1992 & 1993) and an NCAA Championship (University of Miami-1987).

Jimmy Johnson served as head coach of the Cowboys from 1989 through 1993. He became only the third man in NFL history to coach consecutive Super Bowl winners, winning Super Bowl XXVII in 1992 and Super Bowl XXVIII in 1993.

In his five years in Dallas, Jimmy Johnson led the Cowboys to two NFL championships. The first title in 1992, coming just three years after the franchise produced a 1-15 record in 1989. In three of the four years that followed Jimmy Johnson's initial season with the Cowboys, he was named the NFL Coach of the Year by at least one national news media outlets. During that time, Jimmy Johnson's clubs compiled a four-year record of 50-22 (.694) and the Cowboys won 39 of their last 50 games (.780) under Johnson. In addition, Jimmy Johnson's postseason winning percentage of .875 (7-1 record) is the second best in NFL history, behind only Vince Lombardi's mark of .900 (9-1).
