Mannheim Steamroller is a new age pop-synth-classical ensemble based out of Omaha, Neb., that performs the compositions of founder Chip Davis. The rotating cast of musicians ranges from a single acoustic pianist to a more traditional guitar/bass/drums/synth setup to a full symphony orchestra. The group's long-running Fresh Aire series blends traditional Renaissance-era music with modern synthesizers and other instruments; the combo is also known for its series of multiplatinum-selling Christmas albums. Mannheim Steamroller's latest effort, Mannheim Massage, came out in 1997.
