Mitchell Anderson

Best known for his role on TV's Party Of Five as Claudia Salinger's violin teacher/mentor, Ross, Mitchell Anderson has been openly gay since his personal decision to "come out" at the 1996 GLAAD Media Awards. Since that time, he has been an activist for social and political justice, while maintaining an active and successful career as an actor on stage, TV, and the big screen. With this newfound voice, Mitchell has appeared on such programs as Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, Good Morning America, and Assignment Hollywood with Leeza Gibbons. Mitchell has also been interviewed in several major publications including The New York Times, USA Today, and The Advocate, discussing gay and lesbian issues especially as they relate to Hollywood. Mitchell has been privileged to work with organizations such as The Victory Fund, which raises money for gay and lesbian candidates across the country, The Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest gay political organization, and numerous local AIDS service organizations. He was a tireless leader in the fight against California's Proposition 22, "the limit of marriage act" which sought to recognize only marriage between a man and a woman. Mitchell is also a columnist for Gay.com and leads the popular Web site's "Activist Way" channel. Mitchell starred as Dr. Jack McGuire on the long running ABC series Doogie Howser, M.D. He has also starred in many movies for television, including: the role of Richard Carpenter in The Karen Carpenter Story; Is There Life Out There? opposite Reba McIntyre; The Comeback as Robert Urich's son; and Back To Hannibal as an adult Huck Finn. He appeared with Sharon Stone and Ellen DeGeneres in the HBO special If These Walls Could Talk 2, which aired in March of 2000. On film, Mitchell starred opposite Jennifer Tilly in the critically acclaimed Relax... It's Just Sex, which received its world premier at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival. He will be seen in the upcoming independent film The Last Place On Earth. Other film credits include: Space Camp, Deadly Dreams, and All American Murder.
