In 2002, the Hollywood Reporter named Sherry Lansing the most powerful woman in the entertainment business. In 2005, Lansing founded The Sherry Lansing Foundation to encompass many aspects of her philanthropic work.The primary focus of the foundation is cancer research.

Lansing serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of Friends of Cancer Research and as a Trustee of the American Association for Cancer Research. Lansing served as Chairman of the Motion Picture Group of Paramount Pictures from November 1992 until March 2005. Ms. Lansing was responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's motion picture operations.

Under her chairmanship, she presided over a long list of culture-defining films, including, "Kramer vs Kramer," "The China Syndrome," "Fatal Attraction," "The First Wives Club," and "Saving Private Ryan." Additionally, three of Paramount's pictures won the Academy Award for Best Picture during a four-year period: "Forrest Gump," "Braveheart," and the highest grossing motion picture of all time, "Titanic."
